Kitchen in Nashua, NH with a white marble-look epoxy countertop

How resin countertops work

An epoxy countertop is a thick layer of clear and tinted resin poured over an existing counter or a new substrate. While the resin is liquid, we add pigments, metallic powders and veining to create the look you want, from white marble to dark granite to swirling metallic. As it cures, the resin levels into a smooth, glossy and seamless surface. Because it goes over what you already have in most cases, there is no demolition and no waiting weeks for fabrication.

Looks you can choose

  • Marble: white or cream with soft gray, gold or black veins.
  • Granite style: speckled blends in black, gray or brown.
  • Metallic: silver, copper, gold or bronze swirls with real depth.
  • Solid colors: clean, modern looks in white, charcoal or a custom shade.

We bring sample boards and photos to every consultation, and we talk through how bold or subtle you want the pattern to be.

Kitchens in older homes

Many local homes have kitchens with original laminate or tile counters that are worn but sitting on perfectly good cabinets. Replacing those tops with stone can be expensive and messy. An epoxy pour over the existing surface gives a fresh look in a few days. We check that the base is solid, repair any loose areas and prime the surface so the resin bonds well.

Basement bars and media rooms

Home bars are one of the most popular uses for epoxy here, especially in finished basements. A metallic or deep black bar top looks striking under pendant lights and pairs well with a matching metallic floor. We can also embed items like bottle caps, coins or wood inlays for a personal touch.

Vanities, laundry rooms and desks

Smaller projects such as a bathroom vanity, a laundry room counter or a built-in desk can usually be finished in a day or two. They are a good way to try the look before taking on a full kitchen. Small jobs get the same masking, prep and finishing as large ones.

The installation

We start by protecting your cabinets, floors and walls with plastic and tape. The existing counter is cleaned, sanded and repaired. A primer coat seals the surface and a base color goes down. The decorative pour follows, worked by hand and torched to remove bubbles. After curing, we may add a clear flood coat for extra depth. Most kitchen projects take three to four days, including cure time.

Care and use

Epoxy is durable and resists water and most household stains, but it is not indestructible. Use cutting boards rather than cutting directly on the surface and trivets under hot pots, since high heat can mark the resin. Clean with mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive pads and harsh chemicals. With that care, an epoxy counter keeps its shine for years, and a light sanding and recoat can refresh it later.

Pricing

Cost depends on square footage, the condition of the existing counter, edge details and the complexity of the design. Epoxy usually costs well under natural stone. Your written estimate will spell out materials, labor and timeline.

Send photos of your current counters and a few looks you like, or schedule a visit. We can coordinate countertop and floor work so a basement bar or kitchen gets a complete update. Check out our polished concrete option for floors with a similar modern feel.

Workshop and garage counters

Epoxy is also a practical surface for workbenches, potting tables and garage counters. A clear or solid-color coat over a plywood or butcher block top resists oil, paint and glue, and wipes clean easily. These utility projects are quick and often pair well with a new garage floor.

Edges and backsplashes

Edge style affects the finished look. We can pour over square edges, rounded bullnose edges or drip edges that show the resin's depth. A matching backsplash can be done at the same time, or we can work up to an existing tile backsplash and finish the joint with a clean caulk line.
